Help needed to avoid salary cuts

Last night, the FCPS school board voted for a budget which includes a full step and a 0.62 percent COLA/Market Rate Adjustment. They declined to pass any of the proposed amendments which would have restored the full 1% cost of living adjustment.

The Board of Supervisors’ funding of the FCPS budget for 2015-16 cycle has been bad enough, but the prospects for the 2016-17 school year are much, much worse.

A roughly $100 million deficit is on the horizon for next year. FEA is always at public meetings, telling the School Board and the Administration to find somewhere to find resources without cutting your salaries.

This Is Where You Come In

We need your best ideas about how FCPS can save money. We aren’t asking about cutting programs, but often the people on the front lines are the people who know the most about organizational inefficiencies. Are there projects that you work on that could be done with less expense? Perhaps certain meetings or gatherings could happen online instead of in person. Perhaps materials are available from a less expensive vendor. Maybe you have an idea that you haven’t voiced, but that you suspect could save the district hundreds or thousands of dollars.

We Need All of Your Ideas

We will compile these ideas, and share them with FCPS leadership. We always ask that the administration give us a seat at the table and a voice in decision making. Now is your chance to make your voice heard about where to save money without cutting your salary.
