FEA members wrote hundreds of emails to the School Board, made hundreds of phone calls, and told our stories of how ERFC (the Fairfax supplemental retirement program) changes would impact FCPS employees. Our efforts culminated in over 50 supporters of ERFC attending the School Board meeting last Thursday.
Because of all you did, the Fairfax County Public Schools School Board unanimously decided to postpone making any changes to ERFC until April!
The lesson learned is this: When we stand strong and work together, we make an impact on the decisions which affect our lives.
YOU made the difference in convincing the School Board that it needed to slow down before making decisions that can have drastic long term consequences. I want to thank everyone who made efforts to make our presence felt and our voices heard.
There are various options being discussed, both good and bad for ERFC and employees, that the FEA will be following and giving our input on during the upcoming months. We will keep our members informed throughout the process and will have opportunities for you to get more involved with your union.
Tomorrow morning FEA leadership will be representing our members’ interests at a press conference following the release of the County Supervisors’ budget. We intend to continue to push for appropriate funding of FCPS.
I look forward to working with you into the future to build a better, stronger Fairfax County Public Schools.
President, Fairfax Education Assocation
